Il padre di Marguerite, però, è misteriosamente scomparso. Sembra che a ucciderlo sia stato Paul, uno degli assistenti, che è poi fuggito impunito in un'altra dimensione, portando via con sé tutti i dati relativi al Firebird. Marguerite si lancia alla ricerca del padre e grazie a Theo, uno studente di fisica che l'aiuta nell'impresa, riesce a ingaggiare una caccia all'uomo pluri-dimensionale, tra una Londra del futuro, una Russia ai tempi dello Zar e un mondo sottomarino... Le vite sono mille. Mille le possibilità. Ma il destino è uno soltanto.
