About this eBook

In 2008 Major Russell Lewis commanded a company of two hundred soldiers from the British Army's legendary Parachute Regiment on a six-month tour in the most dangerous part of Afghanistan.

Company Commander is his story, a riveting first-person account of incredible bravery, telling what it is like to have 200 Paras depending on you constantly, to make decisions which can and do cost lives, to see men under your command killed and injured and being under the most intense pressure imaginable every minute of every day for six long months.

Company Commander is a true leader's story – a unique and vivid mix of front-line battles and strategic decision making and an intensely personal and inspiring account of a tour in the most perilous theatre of war on the planet.

This is an incredible account of how difficult it must be to be the man in charge of a large group of paratroopers...couldn't put the book down as the tour unfolded with some incredible battle recollections. These men are a special breed who put up with difficult circumstances and crack on....a must read..

This is a book different to others on this subject. A first-hand account of the role of a Company Commander in combat. The feelings, the emotions and at times the isolation. The abiding thing from the book though is the professionalism of everyone serving as well the immense pride Major Lewis had in those he led. I also agree with about the aggie and the taphouse!

Great book which tells the story from a company commander's viewpoint, highlighting the challenges and the loneliness of command, whilst at the same time being told on a very personal level.
