This book offers challenging material for the intermediate to advanced drummer. Addressing a multitude of styles, author Frank Briggs helps guide your playing to a higher plane while improving your technique and raising your awareness of cutting edge concepts such as metric modulation, displaced beats, polyrhythms, and more. Briggs states, "He believes the more you know about different styles and the inner workings of time and phrasing, the better your ability to contribute to the music at hand. The clearer you see the parallels or the common threads that tie these concepts together, the more freedom you will have to express yourself." The music is challenging and suitable for the advanced drummer. Styles include odd meters, metric modulation, tuplets, funk, Latin, mid and up-tempo swing, and fusion.

This set includes access to online audio. which is a play-along for drums with full stereo versions of the music charts included in the book. Sketch, Electric, Red Moon, Home, Funky Track, Jazz Swing, and 32 Bar are recorded with drums and without drums (the tracks without drums include a click track) so that the student can listen and play-along. Frank Briggs has also enjoyed recording and/or touring with such diverse acts as, platinum R&B artists Atlantic Starr, Zappa alumnus Mike Keneally, Windham Hill keyboard whiz Kit Walker, Megadeth lead guitarist Chris Poland & Ohm, Michael Jackson/Jeff Beck guitar shredder Jennifer Batten, RCA recording artist 805 and even multi-platinum singing personality Engelbert Humperdinck. Frank has recorded for such labels as Universal, EMI/Sony, Reprise, RCA, Tone Center, Immune, Higher Octave, MTM Germany and has endorsements with Yamaha drums, Istanbul Agop cymbals, Regal Tip sticks and Attack drumheads. As a leader and music director Frank has lent his composition and performance skills to Fortune 500 companies American Express, Toyota, Forest Labs, GameStop, Disney, SAP, AstraZeneka, Amway and Eli Lilly - just to name a few. A native of Central New York, Frank eventually settled in southern California where he remains busy as an educator, session/touring drummer and drum set clinician. His educational books and videos have been used worldwide by professional drummers and music schools and he has traveled extensively giving master classes on drum set vocabulary and performance. Modern Drummer magazine recognizes Frank's instructional DVD as one that helped set the standard for the industry, as well as giving all of his books 4 star reviews.
