Cracked Open

I can't get behind this book. It hypersexualizes an isolated and vulnerable 16-year-old girl, and condones a relationship full of red flags and "it's not his fault he hurt me, he couldn't control his urges" energy. I don't know if the girl ends up with the 25-year-old grown man in the end, and I don't want to know. I honestly felt anxious and disgusted the whole time I was reading this.

Cracked Open is the first book in the series Dragon Born Academy. It is a fast paced storyline full of lots of interaction with all characters of the story. The main character Sydney "Syd" for short is a 15 1/2 nearly 16 year old average teenage girl who acts more like in her 20's at times. But what I love most about Syd is her sassy snarky attitude who doesn't take "no" for an answer. Then there is Ashe.. Tall, handsome and 25 years of age.. and as Sydney calls him.. Sargent Panty-dropper.. lol.. I got a snicker out of that. Ashe is very caring and understanding of many things that happen to him. All in all I loved reading Cracked Open.. it has many funny parts and some sweet heated moments .. a definite must read.

I honestly don’t know where to start with this book. I have been (im)patiently waiting for the arrival of this and now that it’s here I can honestly say it was definitely worth the wait! The author did NOT disappoint. Sydney is a teenager, sixteen and a half, who finds herself uprooted from the life she has always known and thrown into a new world full of secrets and dragons with no answers to her questions. She is snarky, intelligent, and has lived more in her short life than most people have their whole lives. She’s used to being treated as an equal. Then there’s Ashe, who is determined, a planner, loyal, sweet, compassionate, and gorgeous. As she goes through her new life she must learn the ins and outs of high school, the Dragonborn community, and who she can believe. Together they must learn to communicate to one another, to lean and trust each other, and so much more. Will they be able to get over the bumps thrown at them? This book has a little bit of everything! People with hidden agendas, family feuds and royal families, and so much more. It’s an auctioned packed book that sucks you in from page one and hasn’t let me go even know. There’s chemistry and romance, jealousy and rivals, and so much more. Wonderfully written in a way that flows and is impossible to put down. You will NOT be disappointed.
