About this eBook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The international sensation and blockbuster Hollywood rom com. • "A Pride and Prejudice-like send-up about an heir bringing his Chinese-American girlfriend home to meet his ancestor-obsessed family.” —People

“Deliciously decadent.... This 48-karat beach read is crazy fun.” —Entertainment Weekly

When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

For an author based in Manhattan, he still is able to get the flavour of the Singaporean life. And touching so much on the rich families of Singapore, he spoofed a few here and there but it sounded he had a great intimate knowledge of them. Kudos for a very last minute turn about wealth not being everything in love. Waiting for the next book to read! Btw Singaporeans aren't all that atas and snooty. The real Singaporean struggles to pay for his own home and to raise children. Come visit Singapore!

Lack of substance, plot was too thin. The movie had added much 'value' that completed this book. All good romantic fictions always build on a baseline, this book only offers nothing more but brand names. The characters seem superficial, extremely shallow and to a point boring. Go see the movie, skip the book.

This book was great! I really loved the beautiful detailed descriptions of the many rich and luxurious places the characters visited. I truly felt like I was on a tour of Asia with someone who holds a deep love for this varied, distracting, multi-faceted wonderland. I have never read a book that deserves to be called "colorful" more than this one.
