About this ebook

'I am in awe of Dan Simmons' STEPHEN KING

America, 2036. A wasteland in ruin.

Terrorism and ultra-violence plague a once powerful society, whose only escape is to numb itself on flashback: a euphoric yet cripplingly addictive regression drug.

Ex-cop and addict Nick Bottom has seen flashback take his badge, his reputation and the love of his son. Alone and in despair, he has hit rock bottom.

Nick is about to receive a proposition. Billionaire magnate Hiroshi Nakamura needs his services, and, in particular, his memories.

the ending was tricky but really enjoyable in my opinion. was initially taken aback by the political flavour of the novel which contrasted sharply with what I had expected of the writer based on what I thought of the hyperion cantos but the smooth writing allowed me to overlook and gradually empathize with a viewpoint that was declared in a work of fiction after all.

This is thoughtful stuff - plenty here to offend various political / religious groups. I'm sure the recent nuclear agreement with Iran would have got a mention, had it happened before this was published. Dan is concerned about another Jewish genocide, and makes it all seem so possible.

Basically this book is a vehicle for Simmons rightwing, racist and anti-environment views. Shame, could have been a half decent novel.
