Depuis D'où viens-tu Johnny ?, son premier grand film, qui pour beaucoup sembla être le premier, on ne cesse de traquer les apparitions de Johnny sur petit ou grand écran à partir de 1955 (Les Diaboliques de Clouzot). Certaines sont furtives (treize secondes dans Un coup dans l'aile bien que son nom apparaisse en grand au générique, certes agrémenté de la mention « avec la participation de » !). Johnny à l'écran… On évoque couramment le nombre d'une quarantaine de fois. Ce n'est pas totalement faux. Encore faut-il savoir s'il s'agit de caméos, de concerts filmés ou de véritables performances d'acteur. Faire le tri est le but de notre ouvrage !
