Meanwhile, she supported Ken as he turned huge tracts of wilderness into a prosperous million-acre cattle station.

Jacqueline Hammar was born in Darwin in 1929 and lived in various remote bush settlements with her parents. Sent off to boarding school in Darwin when she was five, thence to Brisbane with the outbreak of the Second World War, Jacqueline couldn't wait to head back to her beloved Territory. After moving to the Top End in her twenties she met and married stockman Ken Hammar. A few years later they set off to live on remote, inaccessible land along the Limmen Bight River where Ken worked to turned hundreds of thousands of acres of untamed country into a prosperous cattle station.
Now in their eighties, Jacqueline and Ken live in the hinterland of the Gold Coast. They have two adult children and several grandchildren.
