'THE HARD-BITTEN CHAMPION OF BRITISH HEROIC FANTASY' - Joe Abercrombie

'HEROISM AND HEARTBREAK . . . GEMMELL IS ADRENALINE WITH SOUL' - Brent Weeks

It is three hundred years since the world toppled on its axis and civilisation was destroyed. In this savagely reshaped world ruled by brigands and war-makers, a rider seeks a lost city. Pursuing a dream to calm the violence in his soul, Jon Shannow, the brigand slayer, desires only peace. But from the Plague Lands emerges a fresh terror.

The Lord of the Pit and his hellborn army seek to plunge mankind into a new demonic era. Seemingly invincible, they make a fatal mistake: they take Shannow's woman for blood sacrifice. And find themselves facing the deadliest warrior of the new age. Jon Shannow - the Jerusalem Man.

I'd read Wolf In Shadow many years ago in paperback. I couldn't recall the story, but Jon Shannow was etched in my memory. Recently I remember who had written the novel, and the character of The Jerusalem Man. I'm glad I did. The novel is written with characters and situations reflecting the dark, desolate landscape of David Gemmel's vision. But like nearly all of Gemmel's books, the characters, heroics, and storyline keep you riveted from start to finish. The Jerusalem Man is the OG, Original Gunslinger.

for a book written so long ago, the message within seemed strangely fitting for these times... gave me a chance, just for a while, to escape somewhere else. very much recommended.

David Gemmell had a gift for great characters. Flawed but brilliant. The Jerusalem man is no different
