About this ebook

INTRODUCING
HONOR HARRINGTON

Having made him look a fool, she's been exiled to Basilisk Station in disgrace and set up for ruin by a superior who hates her.

Her demoralized crew blames her for their ship's humiliating posting to an out-of-the-way picket station.

The aborigines of the system's only habitable planet are smoking homicide-inducing hallucinogens.

Parliament isn't sure it wants to keep the place; the major local industry is smuggling; the merchant cartels want her head; the star-conquering, so-called "Republic" of Haven is Up To Something; and Honor Harrington has a single, over-age light cruiser with an armament that doesn't work to police the entire star system.

But the people out to get her have made one mistake. They've made her mad.

At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).

At first, it was totally confusing, very technical and sentencing mistakes. But story is about an underdog doing brilliant so kept on reading...cheering for the captain and writer delivered spectacularly, with a bit of sadness, people died and the ship was scrapped....ahhh. Ready to read next book.

David Weber makes a grand start in the Honorverse with "On Basilisk Station". He knows how to turn both duty and sincerity into badges honour. Once the series took off he was able to expand his word limit and give us more in-depth characters and fantastic stories. However, his final books (never say die) tended to froth overly much. Too many secondary, tertiary and miscellaneous characters (and throw away plotting) detract rather than add to a good stew. Plus he was stuck sticking in missing plot points from books past in order for character stories to make sense. Not to say they aren't good books, but one can skip several scenes and chapters to get back to the main story at hand. His editors either gave up, or DW is self-publishing.

Great flow and action build up. As former military, I really appreciated the details in the fight scenes as entirely realistic. Too many novels try to color over details that make it possibly authentic. Could have done without the whole chapter on faster than light travel explanation. 9/10 recommend.
