Amateur psychic Selena Smith is settling into her new life in the magical mountains of Starfall Valley helping her Aunt Blair run the paranormal Kindred Spirits Inn. Blair is teaching her magic, and the object of her spell is a stubborn weed. Jadis, her best friend, and Thorn White, a new hire for PR work and potential love interest, are watching and adding their teasing comments, much to Selena’s embarrassment. (The weed is winning.) After her final successful weed removal, Blair decided it would be more expedient to hire a gardener for the rest. Thorn recommended his old school friend, Oliver Pollock, who owns the Petals & Potions apothecary in town. So Blair asked Thorn and Selena to drive into town and talk to him. They walked right into the Spring Festival market where everyone brings their food and wares to sell at the start of Spring. Oliver will also have a table, so they looked for him as they browsed everything. They found Giles Norwood, Oliver’s socially awkward business partner, a pale man with greasy thinning black hair. He mumbled Oliver was busy, but Bella Vigil from the bakery next door stepped in and said Giles would give her message to Oliver about the job offer. She handed Selena a paper to write her name and number, and as Selena passed it to Giles, his hands were ice cold and she noticed his fangs for the first time. He was a vampire! And when they walked away, she noticed their secretive vampire B&B guest, Dominique talking with Giles. Strange… Her eyes met Giles’ and she got a feeling he was trying to tell her something without saying it aloud. When Oliver shows up, he starts acting oddly, showing signs of vampirism even though there didn’t seem to be a bite mark. Fortunately the Chef recognizes the symptoms and they rush Oliver to the hospital. When psychic Selena gets a vision of Oliver arguing with Giles, she is ready to look into this to find out what’s going on. Is it Giles? Dominique? Or someone else Oliver has been in contact with? Will Oliver survive this experience? This story was so well-written with a strong focus on relationships, both good and bad, among the characters. It fully involved the reader as an active participant in the story line. It also provided many different ways the characters can move in future books. I enjoy the way the author ties events together from book to book. It’s a helpful tweak to the reader’s memory and brings it all back into the current adventure. I highly recommend this series. With the humor interspersed, this is my kind of book!

Meaning of Flowers The family of witches is ever expanding in StarFall Valley just not in the time honored way. This story kind of centered on Thorn and Selena with appearances from Jadis, Blair and Emile. There is never a full moment at the Kindred Spirits Inn. Selena doesn't go looking for trouble it comes to her and with this mystery she really flexes her magic ability while trying to work out who is behind harming Oliver and why. There are plenty of suspects as well as new people to meet and a blooming relationship with Thorn to navigate along with making sure she makes time for those around her. This was another great addition to the series that will have you laughing, scratching your head to work out who the bad guy is and loving learning more about everyone and Starfall Valley.
