About this eBook

A pacemaker should have saved oil and gas magnate Nathan Moore’s life. Instead, it provided his killer with a seemingly perfect means of execution.

A bombing at one of Nathan’s oil rigs days earlier indicates his death could be part of a bigger conspiracy, a web Special Agent Tori Templeton must untangle. But her first order of business is separating the personal from the professional—the victim’s wife, her best friend, is one of the FBI’s prime suspects.

Clearing Sally’s name may be the biggest challenge of her career, but Tori finds an unexpected ally in the newest member of the task force, recently reinstated Deputy US Marshal Cole Jeffers. As Tori and Cole dig deeper into Nathan’s personal and business affairs, they uncover more than they bargained for. And the closer they get to finding the real killer—and to each other—the more intent someone is on silencing them for good.

This was a thrilling book that kept me on my toes with all the unexpected twists. FBI Special Agent Tori Templeton and her partner, Max, were called in to investigate the death of Nathan Moore, owner of Moore Oil & Gas. Tori was a friend to Nathan and his wife, Sally, making it sometimes hard to stay in investigative mode. Especially when she wanted to help Sally through the loss of her husband. US Marshal Cole Jeffers was also working the case and was a friend of Nathan's. As the investigation proceeds, they learn that Nathan wasn't the person they thought he was. And that he had been murdered when someone tampered with his pacemaker. I enjoyed this suspenseful story. With so much going on and the twists in the plot, it could have been hard to follow. But the way DiAnn Mills wrote it, I didn't have any problem keeping up. I just wanted to keep flipping the pages to find out what was going to happen next. Because the more these investigators dug, the more secrets they found. Cole and Tori are incredible characters. Both are very strong, intelligent people who are great investigators. Their light romance nicely softens the drama. Especially, with the mystery of who is behind the bombing of the oil rig, Nathan's murder and threats to his family. I really liked not knowing who the murderer was until the end, and was surprised to find out who it was. I received a copy of Deep Extraction through NetGalley but I am reviewing it on my own as I do with everything I read.

This is book two in the FBI Task Force series, however it is a stand alone book. If you enjoy FBI type, suspenseful, mysterious with a dash of romance you will love this book. DiAnn Mills has a great way of developing her character and keeping your interest while adding mystery, suspense and drama all in one. There are many twist and turns in this novel and will keep you guessing. Tori Templeton is more than just a beautiful face, she has a heart of gold and loves her job as an FBI agent. When tragedy strikes her best friend will she be able to put aside her feelings and solve the murder no matter what may come? When tasked to work with the handsome US Marshal will they be able to solve all the crimes that seems to be tied together while staying alive. This would make a great movie. I look forward to reading more from this series. I loved the chemistry between Tori and Cole.
