About this eBook

USA Today bestselling author Catherine Gayle presents another novel in the emotional Portland Storm hockey romance series.

Fourth-line winger Cam Johnson fights like hell for his team—even if he has to break the rules. A vigilante on the ice, Cam takes on all the battles, whether they’re his fight or not. The Portland Storm is his team—his family—and he’ll take down anyone who threatens them. When one of his on-ice battles lands him in the penalty box, the coach’s fiery daughter calls him for a Delay of Game. Now Cam has to finish what he started.

Terrified that her father’s job as coach of the Storm will be the death of him, Sara Thomas wants nothing to do with the sexy hotheaded player who caused her dad to end up in the hospital. And Cam will do anything to rectify the damage he caused—even if it means taking the fall for something he didn’t do. After all, he’s the team enforcer. What he offers up just might save him, his coach, and Sara, too.

Sara Thomas is the daughter of legendary hockey coach Scotty Thomas and she's been the one taking care of her father since her mother left. Scotty's health takes a turn for the worse and so the loyal, stubborn and caring Sara is right there to take care of her father once again, all while dealing with her own issues that she has chosen to keep secret from everyone for the time being. Cam "Jonny" Johnson is known for his sparing on the ice and for being what in the world of hockey is known as an "enforcer." Having met Jonny in a couple of the earlier books, it's apparent he has a gentler side of the ice and it was fully showcased in his relationship with Sara. This is one of those books that you aren't sure is going to work when you see who the hero and heroine are and then you dive in and it turns out they are the perfect fit for one another. That's exactly what happened for me with Sara and Cam. I LOVE Cam. He's one of my favorite characters in this whole series and I love how he is with Sara and the lengths he'll go to for her. I'd highly recommend this series in general and would suggest they are read in order as characters show up in various books in the series.

Take the coaches daughter that is against dating any man associated with the hockey association and pair her with a big solid enforcer and you have yourself a romance that is full of laughs and drama. I was really curious to read this book and who Sara would be paired with. Sara has been part of each book and you get a sense of who she is on the surface. She is brash, sassy and takes no prisoners. I love that attitude. What we don’t see behind that sass is her fear to rely on anyone but herself. Cam is gentle giant. On the ice he is full of power and determination off the ice he is quiet. What I adore about Cam is that he knows what he wants and he is an all or nothing kind of guy. He’s not about talk he is about action and he proves time and time again during this story.

While Delay of Game, like the other books in the series, had a character who was dealing with issues from her past, it was a much lighter read than how the series started out, and I think that’s went a long way toward my enjoying it more. Don’t get me wrong; the other books had some light moments and some great happily ever afters, but this one was just lighter all around. Even with Scotty in the hospital and Sara pregnant and Cam desperate to prove to her that he would never leave her, it managed to be a bit fluffier than its predecessors, so it’s a nice uptick in what is turning out to be a pretty great sports romance series.
