My sister saw the movie, and wondered aloud, if the book would be as good, as the movie. Knowing my sister doesn't read, I decided to read it for her. I haven't seen the movie. I struggled a bit, with the book. At times it just dragged along. I'm not disappointed, but I'm not sure I would encourage my sister, to try to read it. It's an interesting story. I'm not upset that I read it. It just didn't draw me in.

This book is absolutely breathtaking. Rarely am I enthralled by a book right from the very first words, but I was with this one. Kya's story is so harrowing yet beautiful, and I truly felt I was with her the entire way. The way her character developed was so well written, and her affinity for nature was so interesting to read. The twists and turns of the story kept me entertained and not wanting to stop reading all the way through. I cried with and for Kya many times, and the court scenes had my heart racing in anticipation and nervousness for her. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

I've heard a lot about this book, but have studiously avoided reading others' opinions and reviews, preferring to wait and enjoy it in my own time. This month seemed ideal! Kya is known locally as the 'Marsh Girl'. Frowned upon by most of the nearby townsfolk and avoided by her peers, she lives a different life from them. When a body is found close to where she lives, it's almost too easy for them to lay the blame at her door. This is Kya's story. Her tale could be tragic, but instead it is almost magical. A marvellously spun story which is really quite special. Reading about Kya's life feels like a privilege, as if I was the only person invited to understand how things unfolded for her. The story begins when she is very young and follows on through all her days to the very end. With limited contact with others, Kya still blossoms in a way that is a lesson to us all. This is the most beautifully written story, with exemplary prose and provides real food for thought. Delia Owens has penned a first-class novel which is an absolute delight to read, and deserves so much more that the five stars I can give it. If there is one book which everyone should read, then this is it. Add it to your reading list today.
