About this ebook

What does imagination mean in an age of artificial intelligence?

The highly successful invention "The Macasso Glove," a device that can turn anyone into a professional artist, has thrown the world of art into the ease of artificial intelligence. However, one girl with a unique trait is determined to defy convention and become the world's greatest artist. But what will it take to distinguish oneself in this "diminishing field," and is creativity still valuable in a world dependent on AI?

For a debut in the space, Derek comes out swinging with a contemporary tale that inspires hope for those feeling the weight of AI. It has to be read to be felt, and not a panel is superfluous in delivering the message right where it needs to hit. Rich with deeply relatable metaphors and parallels, you'd have to be a robot for this to not touch you.

I don't have any reason not to like it or hate it, but it was a good story, y'know. it did a good job describing the usage of AI and how it can affect works that many talented artists have put their blood, sweat, & tears into. P.S. I like Emi. Thanks for the read

Derek perfectly encapsulates the current struggle between artists and AI. In creating a disabled protagonist he also neatly and effectively diffuses the ridiculous concept that disabled people need AI to create. This book is filled with stark warnings about the adaptation of AI and highlights the costs of allowing machines to create for us.

About the author

My name is Derek Tiah, and I am an aspiring writer hoping to break into the worlds of comic books, manga, and storytelling. I've had a passion for making stories and drawing various characters since I was able to read and write, hoping to one day create my own project. And in recent years, I've seen an increase in the usage of AI in both the corporate and creative worlds. I respect the promises of AI, but I respect human creativity and the arts far more, and "Steps in Creativity," my first published story, is designed to help individuals who are concerned about the future of art.

My name is Tristan Toothaker, and I am an aspiring writer and the editor for Steps in Creativity. I have been working with Derek since the early 2010’s, and have helped him come up with and produce multiple stories over the years. My goal is to eventually write and publish my own novel, and I hope that readers can give it a chance just like they've given this book a chance. For now, my greatest achievement has been helping to make this book a reality, even though my own contributions to it were small.
