I first read this illuminating work many decades ago as a twenty year old man. I was so delighted over its intelligence, depth and understanding of The Dickens World that I put forth the effort and wrote to the author at the University of Alberta, Canada where Ms. McMaster was professor of English and Head of their English Dep’t. To my immense pleasure I discovered both an utterly wonderful and engaging person but also a warm and helpful professor eager to impart her understanding to this snot nosed kid. It was, is and will forever be my distinct pleasure to have met and coresponded with Ms. Juliet McMaster, an author I yet hold in the highest regard. Should her family members ever read this review, although I am quite certain Ms. McMaster has by now passed on, I want you to know that your loved one had such a profound effect upon my life that I have never forgotten the fact. You are blessed
