Siren's Serenade (Wiccan Haus #4)

When a Siren’s call is naught but love After reading the first three books in this series I had some expectations before I ever cracked the spine of this one… umm can you crack a spine on an ebook? Ah well, I’m sure you all know what I mean. I’ve come to expect great secondary characters that stay true to their original type casting no matter the author. I expect the healing magic of an enchanted island beyond the realm of the mundane. I expect a magically healing love between two great leads. Of course, I say two but sometimes you get more than you bargained for. In the case of a Siren’s Serenade you get the siren princess, Serena and a coast guard rescuer, Kaleb Theldon. Serena has been foretold to be the heir apparent to her mother’s Mer kingdom, something she would rather do without, especially if it entails luring human men to a watery grave with her siren’s song. To make matters worse her mother has given her a year to become pregnant or she will be forced. When pregnancy comes at the cost of a human’s sole, it’s one curse she would rather avoid. Wiccan Haus promises a possible cure from the curse. Unfortunately, the cure continues to elude her. Then temptation and perhaps salvation is put in her path in the form of Kaleb. This one human male tempts her as no paranormal man ever has. Even as tempting as he is she knows that each time she is with him is a risk of a very deadly nature for Kaleb. Sometimes though you learn you can love enough to walk away and sometimes, love transcends the need to. Kaleb has been sent to Wiccan Haus to recover from PTSD at seeing his partner dragged to the watery depths of the Bering Sea by a mermaid. Obviously, his superiors are questioning his sanity and ability to return to work. After witnessing a few of the inhabitants of the island he has to ask himself if it isn’t actually a sanitarium he’s been sent to. I mean come on witches and fortune tellers?… give him a break already. Luckily, for Kaleb, Serena seems to be just what the doctor ordered. This is one woman he can easily fall for. Just one problem… she refuses to swim with him. Having swam with her when they rescued one of the island guests, he knows it’s not because she can’t swim. She just won’t swim with him. Imagine however, what will happen if he should ever find out she’s one of the murderous Mer people. Perhaps predictable in the main challenges these two encounter, the story still provided a few twists along the way. Siren’s Serenade manages to be endearing as you watch these two struggle past their issues and find their way back to each other past all obstacles. I also really enjoyed watching the progression in Rekkus and Dana’s lives. The tales of Wiccan Haus just keep getting better and I can’t wait to see where they take us next. If you like stories of magic, shifters, mermaids, vampires and the like you can’t fail in picking up any in the series. Siren’s Serenade is particularly good and don’t worry if you happen to pick it up first. All of the books are standalones. But, don’t be surprised if you find yourself heading back to the bookseller for the others. I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
