OF FIRE AND FLAME is a prequel novella in Donna Grant’s DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. OF FIRE AND FLAME is a short story that reveals some of the history between Constantine, King of the Dragon Kings, his mate and Light Fae Rhiannon, and Erith aka Death. SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland, including the latest spin off about the Fae executioners known as the REAPERS. Told from three third person perspectives (Con, Rhi and Death) OF FIRE AND FLAME is a quick read; a short story that focuses on the emotional heart break of Con and Rhi’s break up in the face of Con’s need to protect the dragons he rules. As Rhi struggles to find a place in the world, a trip to Fae finds Rhi battling for her life, a life that is about to change for all eternity. Meanwhile, Death must face a loss of her own, banning a fellow Reaper in the face of betrayal but as Rhi’s life hangs in the balance, Death takes responsibility for the lives of two young souls. OF FIRE AND FLAME is a revealing, heart breaking and emotional short story of turmoil, sacrifice , desolation and grief.

Grab some tissues. In fact, you might want to grab a box of tissues. Of Fire and Flame maybe the story of the beginning of Dark Kings series but it means so much more to me by releasing it now. I am indebted to the author's friend that asked her, encouraged her to write this story. In my opinion it needed to be told. Respect to the author for writing such an emotional look into the destruction of true love, the struggles of lost love, and the saving of a symbol of their love. The three points of view were brilliant. The reader has the opportunity to understand each character. The reader gets to see the true struggles of each the characters. The reader gets to feel the emotions of each character. I get why decisions were made by the characters. I may not be able to walk in their shoes but I can see through their eyes. I would rather do that than take a peak into the author's mind. I can't begin to imagine what goes on in there. I thank her for sharing her imagination, her stories and her time. Thanks to Donna Grant, I got to enjoy an amazing prequel. I was able empathize with the characters for the decisions they made.

This novella is written in the POV of Rhi, Constantine & Erith. It is during the time when Constantine severed his bond with Rhi. It is sheer agony and sorrow. Ironically it also has pure, unadulterated love from Con for both Rhi and his Dragon Kings which is what makes this so very heartbreaking. Erith gets quite a shock in this book as well but I wont give anything away. Just in case this is your first Donna Grant book, which I highly recommend! I get so invested in these characters that an entire box of tissues entered the trash can. LOL! Still highly recommend either as a next in series or to give Donna Grant a try.
