Kane gets framed for the murder of his employer, an old friend of his father, and the robbery of a priceless collection of rubies. While on the run, he stumbles on a planned robbery and decides to go where the theft is in progress. He gets identified by the thief as "The Rat" and decides to take that identity while trying to clear himself of the robbery and murder he has been falsely framed for.
