"Live Second; 365 Ways to Make Jesus First" is not like your typical daily devotional. Most devotionals I've come across are usually a bible verse for the day. There is nothing wrong with that but I feel it tends to feel more like bible memorization more than application. Live Second encourages daily life application of God's word in the same way I Am Second's small group material promotes accountability and obedience. This may sound odd to non-believers but the truth is, we are all obedient to something. Whether that is the ways of this world or the word of God, we choose daily what we will be obedient to. Although the book is intended as a daily reader for personal growth it is written in a way that encourages fellowship, sharing and community. For non-believers that happen to get this book as a gift, or maybe on a whim in their search for meaning or purpose, this book provides a way for them to get connected with others through social media. Hopefully this leads to finding a church home which will be able to help nurture, encourage and grow them in their new walk. ** I was fortunate enough to receive and advanced digital copy of this book and this review my own opinion. **

This is one of the best daily readers I have gotten. Get it as a hard copy or ebook. Either way it will make a difference.

About the author

Doug Bender is an I Am Second writer and small groups coach. He developed many of the small group tools found at iamsecond.com and has coached churches, organizations, and individuals to use I Am Second groups to share the message of Jesus with their friends and family. He also works with I Am Second's parent organization, e3 Partners, as a church planter and pastor in countries such as Ethiopia, Colombia, and the US. Doug and his wife, Catherine, have four children: Bethany, Samuel, Isabella, and Jesse.
