Dr. Aroop Chatterjee was born on 14th June 1980 in a family of music lovers and teachers of Hindustani classical music. He is a promising and talented tabla player of his generation. He belongs to the cultural capital of India - Varanasi. He is blessed to have learned Tabla from Pt. Chhotelal Mishra, who was an exponent of the Banaras Gharana of Tabla. He has done his doctorate of philosophy in “Critical Analysis of Gats in Banaras and Farukhabad Gharana “ He is a graded artiste of All India Radio with a B high grade to his name among many accolades. Dr. Aroop Chatterjee has performed across many major venues and prestigious music festivals in the country. Lucknow Mahotsav (2010), Sangeet Sankalp Allahabad (2005) are a few of the names worth mentioning. He also has had the honor of accompanying eminent artists like Pandit Narendra Dhar, Late Vidhushi Purnima Chaudhary, Shashank Maktedar, Pt. Ankit Bhatt, Shri Deepak Chatterjee, and Hrishikesh Gangurde to name a few. Aroop Chatterjee also holds the prestigious title of Taal Mani Award which is an award given by the Sur Singar Samsad Parishad, Mumbai. He also Received the State Scholarship by the Cultural Department of the state of Uttar Pradesh for the duration of the years 1992- 1994. He has recently self-published his own book titled “Tabla Vaadan me Gat” which is a very useful read for both the students and researchers of music, specially Tabla.now he is join as a assistant professor in department of Tabla Indira Kala sangeet Vishwavidyalaya Khairagarh as a guest faculty sence January 21
