The present book intends to assess the performance of Pressurized Irrigation Network System (PINS), the effectiveness of institutional arrangements for management of PINS projects and the bottlenecks for their smooth functioning in India. Since Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Telangana are the leading states of the country promoting PINS and MIS, the study was planned as an all India coordinated study covering these four states. The WUAs in the study areas of the selected states were interviewed to capture the dynamics of community based irrigation management. Under different command areas, the study analysed system performance of PINS with MIS such as drip and sprinklers in terms of their functioning, costs and benefits, adoptability. The study finds beneficial impact of PINS investment on cropped area, irrigation area, farm production as well as water and energy savings. The book will be very useful for those who are interested in policies and governance issues related to irrigation water management in the country and the selected states in particular.
About the author
Dr Mrutyunjay Swain, M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Economics with ICSSR Fellowship, is presently working as Associate Professor at Department of Economics and Management, Khallikote University, Berhampur. He has published three books and 51 research papers in refereed journals and edited books/volumes. He has completed 20 research projects funded by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India (GOI); Planning Commission, GOI; DST, GOI; World Bank; ICSSR; DES, Govt. of Gujarat, CIPT, Columbia Water Centre, etc. He has been working as a member of editorial board of 5 reputed research journals. He was awarded Prof. V.S. Vyas Felicitation Prize during 2012-2014 and 2014-2016. He was also conferred prestigious Sardar Patel Research Award 2018.
Dr S.S. Kalamkar, M.Sc. (Ag), Ph.D. and a gold medalist, is presently working as Professor and Director at Agro-Economic Research Centre, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand Gujarat. He has published 8 books and more than 72 research papers in national and international journals. He has been associated with several organisations as a life member and working as member of editorial board and reviewer for several journals. He has been awarded several awards such as Prof. V.S. Vyas Felicitation Prize, Sardar Patel Research Award, Gold medal and Merit Cash Prize (M.Sc. level), etc.
Dr Hemant Sharma, M.Sc. (Ag), and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, is presently working as RO/Assistant Professor at Agro-Economic Research Centre, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand Gujarat. He has published more than 25 research papers in refereed journals and edited books. He has completed 5 research projects funded by various agencies. His areas of expertise are Agriculture Marketing, Agricultural Finance, Agricultural Production and Resource Economics.
