Ein Doppelquartett Victor Hugo - Victor Hugo (1802-1885) war ein französischer Schriftsteller. Er verfasste Gedichte sowie Romane und Dramen und betätigte sich als literarischer, aber auch politischer Publizist. Die Elenden (Les Misérables) ist ein Roman von Hugo, den er 1862 im Hauteville House auf Guernsey im Exil beendete. Geschildert wird die französische Gesellschaft von der Zeit Napoleons bis zu der des Bürgerkönigs Louis Philippe. Aus dem Buch: "Fantine war die Freude. Ihre schimmernden Zähne hatten offenbar von Gott eine Mission erhalten: zu lachen. Sie trug noch lieber in der Hand als auf dem Scheitel ihr Hütchen aus genähtem Stroh, mit langen weißen Bändern. Ihr dichtes blondes Haar, das dazu neigte, zu wehen, und sich leicht löste und das sie unaufhörlich wieder ordnen mußte, schien für die Flucht der Galatea unter den Weiden bestimmt zu sein."
About the author
Victor Hugo was a French poet and novelist who, after training as a lawyer, embarked on the literary career. He became one of the most important French Romantic poets, novelists and dramatists of his time, having assembled a massive body of work while living in Paris, Brussels and the Channel Islands. Hugo died on May 22, 1885, in Paris.
