Great gem of a book long overlooked. A look at the changing landscape of landed gentry to nouveau riche trade with a passionate romance at its core. Wonderful read- enjoy!

Love this book! If you are a fan of Jane Austen's writing (like I am) then this is definitely a book to check out. I actually listened to it via Librivox Podcasts.
Also love the BBC 2004 television version.

I identified with the setting, having grown up in a mill town. I love how deep it went into the struggles of life in a mill town. Great characters and plot. And I loved the deep conversations the characters had with each other.
