This book was incredible and I am kicking myself for not diving into earlier!!! Derek and Sofia are mature, reasonable, damaged, and emotional. That last one, it doesn’t seem to fit, but as their story unfolds, you slowly see how their emotions have been driving them for years. Acquaintances who express their passion one night, their story becomes a whole lot more. I cried, really cried, for the pain and anguish Derek and Sullivan endured. I ached, total heart ache, for Sofia and Liam. Yes, Derek and Sofia are our main couple, but there are undercurrents with Sullivan and Liam that drive this story, and end without resolution. As Sofia discovers Derek, who he is, how he feels, why he feels, it was a revelation to me as a reader as well. Derek hasn’t, really, really, hasn’t had a good life, and he kept making decisions to solidify that. It isn’t easy to turn that around, and he really doesn’t want to, so why do it. The moment, that pinpoint in time, almost too late, that clarifies things for him was a true sunshine breaking through the clouds made me weep and laugh in happiness for him. When Sofia realizes his change of heart, when he tells her in the way only Derek can, well they had me goofy smiling that they were finally, finally, getting their HEA This story is packed with intrigue, twists and turns, action and violence. It defines a romantic suspense, as our couple get to really know each other in the midst of all these goings on. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, I will be rectifying that soon, and had no trouble following along. I am off to get the next book in the series now, because, well, there is a couple on tap, and another that needs some resolution.

This review was written by Marie for a guest review post on Ever After Book Reviews blog: 4 Stars To say that this book was not what I expected would be an understatement. I’ve been a fan of this series from the get-go, but I was never a huge fan of Derek. He always rubbed me the wrong way with his abrasive, stand-offish personality. So when I started this one, I wasn’t thrilled that it was his story. As a matter of fact, half-way through the book, I wasn’t really into it at all. But at one point, everything changed. Derek became the complete opposite of what he had always been, and I found myself feeling for him, wishing that the story wouldn’t come to an end. Honestly? Midnight Revenge is definitely one of the top three books of this entire series for me! Derek wasn’t the only reason. The story is thrilling, fun and, in true Elle Kennedy form, sexy as hell. It’s got action, romance, and an edge-of-your-seat pace. I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to read this book and can’t wait for the next one. If you haven’t read the previous books in this series, you should, as there are other stories woven in throughout this one. ***I read and reviewed a paperback copy of the book gifted to the blog, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

my goodness Derek Pratt. I've seen glimpses of him in the other books and I was like Mhm.. Mhm.. and then I said let me read about him.. man his humour was tickling me, how he allowed himself to open up to Sofia and yet kept that mean streak of his... loved it! and of course... my Sully & Liam how their story is developing through these other books. I just wish they had their own book. I loved them so much. Derek is... he was great! love this!
