Claire McPartlin
Wow... I absolutely loved this book. It was one of those books that I just wanted to read another chapter to see what happened. The main character is Rosie who has been rushed into hospital after stepping in front of a bus in London and is currently in a coma. The question is did she do it on purpose or was it an accident, and as the story slowly unfolds we finally find out the answer towards the end of the book. I loved how the story was set out, alternating between Rosie's memories of her life so far and the people in it, and the present day with her family. Her sister Daisy in particular took on the role of trying to find out more about her sister's life and the people in it, as Rosie was quite difficult and the family had fallen out with her recently because of her actions. Rosie was guided in her memories by people from her past who had passed on and were helping her navigate this out of body experience, but she could also hear everyone in the present day around her hospital bed. I don't want to say too much about the story and ruin it, but it was so emotional and really makes you think about your life and the peoples lives you may have touched, without sometimes even realising it. It's really about that fork in the road, taking one path instead of another and what ifs. Rosie's situation really shook up her quite disjointed family and made everyone reevaluate their lives for the better. Absolutely amazing, emotional, thought-provoking book - it's gone straight onto my favourite books list. Do have some tissues ready too!
