About this ebook

This book presents a diverse range of recent operational research techniques that have been applied to agriculture and tourism management. It covers both the primary sector of agriculture and agricultural economics, and the tertiary sector of the tourism industry. Findings and lessons learned from these innovations can be readily applied to various other contexts. The book chiefly focuses on cooperative management issues, and on developing solutions to provide decision support in multi-criteria scenarios.

About the author

Evangelia Krassadaki received her PhD and MSc in Multi-criteria Analysis from the Technical University of Crete and Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Piraeus. She started her professional career in the Technical University of Crete, in 1985, while since 1990, she is a teaching assistant at the School of Production Engineering and Management. She is, also, experienced in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students, courses such as Decision Support Systems, Operations Research, and Consumer Behavior - Market Research. She has been awarded for teaching by the Technical University of Crete in 2017. She is a reviewer of scientific publications in the areas of Operations Research – Management – Engineering education, participates in scientific and organizing committees of conferences, manages research projects, and supervises engineering students’ Diploma Thesis, while in the past she was the editorial assistant of the journal ‘ORIJ - Operational Research. An International Journal’. Her interests include multi-criteria analysis, decision support systems, operations research, market research, management science and engineering education. She is an author of over 30 papers published in international journals, conference proceedings and edited volumes.

George Baourakis is the Director of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, CIHEAM–MAICh since June 2012. He has more than two decades’ experience in the management and coordination of educational and research activities, including coordination of the Business Economics and Management Program of CIHEAM- MAICh since 1989, the organization of international seminars and training courses and the scientific, economic and administrative management of research projects. He has co-ordinated and participated in a large number of EU (FP 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th, INTERREG Tempus, Phare, Life, Erasmus + etc), international and national-regional research projects. He is an Affiliate Professor in Marketing and Supply Chain Management, at the Centre of Entrepreneurship, Nyenrode University, The Netherlands Business School, while he has also been appointed Distinguished Research Fellow in Food Marketing-Management at several universities. Dr Baourakis has published numerous papers in internationally refereed scientific journals, presented extensively at international conferences and authored/co-authored several scientific and academic books and special issues which have been distributed by renowned publishing houses.

Constantin Zopounidis is a Professor of Financial Engineering and Operations Research at the Technical University of Crete, Greece, Distinguished Research Professor in Audencia Business School, France, and Senior Academician of both Royal Academy of Doctors and Royal Academy of Economics and Financial Sciences of Spain. He is the Editor-in-Chief in The International Journal of Multicriteria Decision Making (Inderscience), The International Journal of Financial Engineering and Risk Management (Inderscience) and Co-Editor-in-Chief in International Journal of Banking, Accounting and Finance (Inderscience), International Journal of Data Analysis Techniques and Strategies (Inderscience), and the European Journal of Operational Research (Elsevier). In 2013, he received the Edgeworth-Pareto Prestigious Award from the International Society of Multicriteria Decision Making. He has edited and authored 100 books in international publishers and more than 500 research papers in scientific journals, edited volumes, conference proceedings and encyclopedias in the areas of finance, accounting, operations research, and management science.

Nikolaos Matsatsinis is Professor of Information and Decision Support Systems at the Technical University of Crete, Greece. He is President of the Hellenic Operational Research Society (HELORS). He is Director of Decision Support Systems Lab, Postgraduate Program of School of the Production Engineering & Management, and Inter-University Postgraduate Program in ‘Systems Engineering’ with Hellenic Military Academy. He received his PhD in Intelligent Multicriteria Decision Support Systems for Marketing Decisions from Technical University of Crete. He has contributed as project coordinator on over of fifty national and international projects. He is Editor in Chief of the Operational Research: An International Journal (Impact Factor: 1.485) and International Journal of Decision Support Systems, and member of the international advisory board of three other scientific journals. He is the author or co-author of twenty-five books and over of one hundred and ten articles in international scientific journals and books. He has organized and participated in the organization of over of eighty scientific conferences and he has over of two hundred presentations in international and national scientific conferences. Prof. Matsatsinis is member of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI); IFORMS, EURO, HELORS, MCDM, EWG on Multicriteria Decision Aid; EWG on Decision Support Systems, etc.
