This edition contains an Afterword by the translator, a timeline of Tolstoy's life and works, and a glossary of philosophic terminology used throughout Tolstoy's literature and philosophy. Through this intimate portrayal of a relationship, Tolstoy reflects on the nature of contentment and fulfillment in life, offering philosophical insights on the importance of personal growth and emotional understanding within a marriage. The novella's literary merit lies in its profound character study and its ability to evoke a range of emotions in the reader. |
