Flatland follows the journeys of A. Square, a mathematician and resident of the two-dimensional Flatland, where women - thin, straight lines - are the lowliest of shapes, and where men may have any number of sides, depending on their social status.

Edwin A. Abbott (1838-1926)
Edwin A. Abbott was a UK clergyman, academic and writer who wrote one novel. Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions describes characters in a two-dimensional world and explores the nature of dimensions, mathematics and perception. He died, aged 87.
