Consider reading No Lack of Courage: Operation Medusa, Afghanistan first. This will give you an idea of the sense of urgency these guys felt in doing this OP. You fight for your buddies. After you read both you understand that. War at the front line is not about politics or who is in office. "That is above my pay grade" This helps understand why our sons and daughters fight so hard. If you do understand why your son or daughter who serves does what they do these two books might help you understand. If you have served it brings back memories I am sure.

Recommend, well written, good suspense, short chapters. Nice (real) story well described. A couple of maps of the AO would have helped, especially to understand the location of the positions on the hill

About the author
SFC Frank Antenori, US Army (Retired) joined the Special Forces in 1988. Since then, he has participated in numerous operations in over thirty-four countries and has been awarded numerous decorations and citations, with seven received for combat actions.
Hans Halberstadt has authored or coauthored more than fifty books, most on military subjects, especially US special operations forces, armor, and artillery. He served in the US Army as a helicopter door gunner in Vietnam.
