Franz Kafka schrieb 1919 einen 100 Seiten langen Brief an seinen Vater Hermann. Allerdings wurde er nie abgeschickt. Die Erstveröffentlichung fand erst 1952 in der Literaturzeitschrift »Neue Rundschau« statt. Der »Brief an den Vater« ist Kafkas Abrechnung mit seinem Vater und eine eigene Standortbestimmung. Er gilt als eines der wichtigsten Dokumente zum Verständnis von Kafkas Leben und Werk.
