Captain Crendall of the UFP is forced into an impossible situation. To command an enemy vessel with an enemy crew. All because Crendall's family is being held hostage by the enemy.
Five years have passed since humanity defeated the Vartok. Peace has returned to the United Federation of Planets. Humanity has begun rebuilding its resources and expanding its reach through the establishing of a network of base stations and colonies. But peace is an illusion. Earth's old adversary has returned. On the fringes of UFP space, an insidious ambush is sprung on an insignificant research station.
Like nothing humanity has ever seen before.
A lone UFP cruiser with a lean crew patrolling one of the outer stations is all that remains to hold the line against this new attack by the Vartok species.
