Lenore Kosinski
4 stars — There were parts of this book that I just absolutely LOVED!! And then there were parts that frustrated me…hence why it’s slightly lower rated than book 1. Megan was still a snarky delight. I really loved that there were places where she could have reacted like a typical teen heroine by getting upset and then hiding her feelings, but instead she chose to confront the problems and be upfront with her feelings. SO REFRESHING. OMG. COMMUNICATION!!! YAYYYY!!! I get that that’s not typical for teens maybe, but I do get tired of never having a good role model in this area. I also loved how caring and concerned she was for others, from her friendships with Eliana and Fenris, to her interactions with the humans. Unfortunately Megan countered this maturity with her stubborn insistence on being right and looking to everyone else for answers about being a fury. On the one hand, I got her frustration with the way they were handling it. But she didn’t even try to look within herself and explore her powers. She just feared them. I was hoping that she would grow in the book and figure things out, but she was more just slapped on the head with the answers. It was somewhat unsatisfying, because it’s her main struggle throughout the book. I did love what we learned about her powers and stuff though! And I did feel for her, even if I was frustrated with her. Megan and Oanen’s relationship just got hotter and more adorable in this book. I LOVE the chemistry between them! I also really love that I feel like they genuinely care about one another, beyond whatever magic might be in the background. Unfortunately, I also got super tired of the back and forth between them. I mean, I got it…I got Megan’s fear. But at a certain point I was like, here we go again… I’m excited to see what the next book brings for them. So yeah, still loving the series, just got frustrated with some parts of the book…
