Currently, Bin Chen is a Distinguished Professor at Chongqing Normal University in China, a visiting professor of Edge Hill University in UK, and the Director of Chongqing Key Laboratory of Vector Insects. He is a foreign member of Russian Academy of Engineering and Russian Academy of Natural Science, and the State Council Expert holding Special Allowance of Central Government of China. He is also the standing director of Entomological Society of China; the president of Entomological Society of Chongqing; the vice president of Bioinformatics Society of Chongqing; and the chief editor and associate editor of 6 academic journals worldwide. 

Prof. Bin Chen received his BSc in Agriculture from the Southwest University in China in 1983, followed by his MS and PhD in Entomology from the same university. After that, he went to Northwest A&F University in China, and completed his Post doc in Entomology. He once worked as a lecturer, an associate professor and a professor at Southwest University. He also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Israel Agricultural Research Organization and the University of Hong Kong; a Wellcome Trust International Fellow at the University of Leeds in UK; a visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo in Japan; and a research scientist at the State University of New York and Yale University from 1996-2007. He returned to China and joined Chongqing Normal University in 2007.

Prof. Bin Chen is interested in insect molecular biology and genomics; molecular mechanism of insecticide resistance; molecular mechanism of insect diapause and stress resistance genes; taxonomy, molecular taxonomy, phylogenetics, and population genetics of important insects, especially vector insects; integrated pest management; and development and utilization of ecologically-important insects. He has presided over more than 80 scientific research projects, including IAEA project from United Nation, NIH Project from USA, Wellcome Trust Fund from UK, National Science Foundation of the United States, Visiting Professor Fund of The Ministry of Education of Japan, Biodiversity and Conservation Project of the European Union, National Science and Technology Basic Work Special Key Project of China, and National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Prof. Bin Chen has published 362 scientific papers, 32 monographs and 33 patents. More than 200 papers have been published in English, and more than 180 papers have been published in classic SCI journals, including Molecular Ecology, BMC Genomics, Insect Molecular Biology, Pest Management Science, Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, and Journal of Pest Science, with a maximum of 1300 citations in a single paper. He has published a total of 3 new genera, 1 new subgenus and 96 new species of insects, which involves 3 orders, 8 families, and 40 genera. He has won six province-above grade science and technology awards, including the first prize of Ministry of Agriculture Science and Technology Progress, and the second prize of Chongqing Natural Science Award. He developed a gene function research system based on insect transgenomics for the first time in the word. The studies on the genome biology and molecular mechanism of insecticide resistance, and the classification and evolution of mosquito are at the advanced level worldwide.
