Les frères Goncourt, Edmond de Goncourt et Jules de Goncourt, sont deux écrivains français du XIXe siècle classés dans l'école naturaliste. Ils ont écrit en collaboration des romans comme Germinie Lacerteux, en 1865, roman qui s'inspire de la double vie de leur servante, ou La Lorette et L'Art du XVIIIe siècle (1859-1875). Ils détestent la philanthropie et la « bien-pensance », aiment Saint-Simon, le Père Duchesne, les mémorialistes (Chateaubriand).
