A story about friendship written and illustrated by youth author Lisa Arnold.

Polly is happy to begin school in a new town. She can't wait to meet everyone and make some friends. Her first day gets a little rough when she meets Melissa, a girl with a chip on her shoulder. She teases her in class and yells at her. As it turns out, there may be an explanation for Melissa's rude behavior.

Does she really need Melissa's friendship at all and is it worth working on?

Polly would rather be friends than enemies, but how can she convince Melissa to give friendship a chance?

A great story about not judging a book by it's cover and learning to get along.

About the author...

I like to write books for children in my age group. I became an author at the age of eleven and my first book was a story I wrote with my sister, Jessica Arnold. Since then, I have written stories on my own and with my mother, Patricia Arnold. My latest story is "Give Friendship a Chance" a story I wrote and illustrated to encourage kids to get along.

I'm inspired by dragons and mythical beasts. Writing and illustrating my own stories allows me to invent my own creatures and legends. I have helped my mother with illustrating some of her books in addition to illustrating my own. After reading the Harry Potter series, I was inspired to write more books and create illustrations in the same genre.

When I begin a book, I usually begin drawing first. Everything I draw and write about comes from my own imagination. When I finish drawing an illustration, I form the story around the picture. I also love to paint and sometimes mix drawing and painting together. Writing children's books in my age group is just easier to me because I know if I'm writing about a person my age I know what they are feeling and doing in a situation. When I write books for children, it makes me feel positive and I enjoy the opportunity to make kids happy. I feel connected to my characters, and sometimes they act and resemble me!

I come from a family of authors and artists, I think just being around my mother and my sister inspires me to just be as creative and imaginative as I can. I can't resist all the creative energy that is around me. My mother has always encouraged me creatively and has always kept art supplies around. She also gives me lessons, and when she started writing books, it was just natural for me to do the same. My mother is also a graphic designer, so that helps quite a bit!

I think it has some wonderful opportunities for young authors like me. I was able to inspire others to want to write and draw so that says a lot about how digital publishing has inspired others to use their imaginations to write books.
