"The well-written story...helped to keep this reader glued to the pages long into the night"--Reviewers International Organization

From USA Today bestselling author Glynnis Campbell...A fierce warrior maid tries to save her sister from marriage by abducting the groom's right-hand man, a plan that goes awry when her hostage is all-too-willing to succumb to her demands.

Helena of Rivenloch has fire in her heart and battle in her blood, and she’s desperate to save her youngest sister from a fate worse than death...marriage. When Helena attempts and fails to slay the bridegroom, she does the next best thing...abducts his right-hand man, the witty and dashing Sir Colin du Lac, and demands her sister as ransom. But her plans go awry as her captive—amused and enchanted by her wild spirit—becomes a willing participant in her scheme, and Helena soon finds her own heart held hostage.

To save her sister from a forced marriage to a Norman knight, a heavily intoxicated Helena of Rivenloch waits in his bedchamber the night before the nuptials, intending to murder the bridegroom. When she fails and is locked in the cellar for a night to sober up, rather than come to her senses and give up as the new lord of the manor had hoped, Helena emerges more determined than ever to stop the wedding by taking a hostage--Colin du Lac, one of the groom's most valuable men and his best friend. But the tables are soon turned on Helena when Colin decides to act on the attraction simmering between the two of them and seduce Helena. But even though Helena cannot deny that she is physically drawn to Colin, her hatred of all things Norman runs deep, and she is committed to stopping her sisters from sacrificing themselves to the odious marriage to the Norman's commander as ordered by the King, so she resists Colin's advances. But just when she is beginning to soften towards Colin, somethings worse than the Normans arrives to command Helena and Colin's attention and unite them in purpose: the English. How will just the two of them manage to escape the English and return to Rivenloch castle to warn the others that the English will be upon them soon? Will fighting the English together break through the walls around Helena's heart and allow her to love Colin in return? Or should she trust her instincts and guard her heart? This story is well written, fast-paced and full of funny scenes and witty banter. Helena's character is so beautiful and complex it is hard to believe she is not drawn from a real person (then again, perhaps she is--I suppose only the author knows for sure). Her feelings, particularly her anger and passion, are so palpable, they fairly leap off the page. While this book could be read on its own, I think reading it after Lady Danger gives additional insight into both Helna and Colin that is helpful in understanding their motives in Captive Heart. Although this book is partially adept in its exploration of the beginnings of a romantic relationship under unusual circumstances as well as the overcome of prejudices, there is plenty of action to keep the book lively. I read the entire book in one sitting and am looking foreword to reading book 3.
