About this ebook

Evan Smoak returns in The Last Orphan, the next New York Times bestselling Orphan X thriller--when everything changes and everything is at risk.

As a child, Evan Smoak was plucked out of a group home, raised and trained as an off-the-books assassin for the government as part of the Orphan program. When he broke with the program and went deep underground, he left with a lot of secrets in his head that the government would do anything to make sure never got out.

When he remade himself as The Nowhere Man, dedicated to helping the most desperate in their times of trouble, Evan found himself slowly back on the government's radar. Having eliminated most of the Orphans in the program, the government will stop at nothing to eliminate the threat they see in Evan. But Orphan X has always been several steps ahead of his pursuers.

Until he makes one little mistake...

Now the President has him in her control and offers Evan a deal - eliminate a rich, powerful man she says is too dangerous to live and, in turn, she'll let Evan survive. But when Evan left the Program he swore to only use his skills against those who really deserve it. Now he has to decide what's more important - his principles or his life.

Great series. X is a surprisingly complex character for the action genre, with a moral code that's not just a convenient plot gimmick. Mia's my favorite character, and I wish there'd been more of her and her son Peter, but what little there was was perfect. The antagonist of the story was also complex. The dialog between him and Evan was fun, thought-provoking, and walked the edge between really?? and really!! quite well. Nice appearances by recurring characters Candy, Joey, and Tommy. One of the many things I love about the series is that, embedded in the spectacular action and Burn Notice caliber spycraft, there's a sense of humor. Those chapter titles! That's the most noticeable, but there are little sparks of delight scattered throughout. The writing, too, is great. Mostly transparent to the story, but every once in a while, there's a phrase or paragraph or important thought that's expressed in such a way as to leave the reader breathless. I don't have many auto-buys, but Orphan X is one.

I have read all the Orphan X novels and I remember thinking when I began the first one, that this was such a ridiculous but fun read. The further I got into the novel and the further I got into the series I realized that Hurwitz is an excellent writer. Superb and I strongly recommend the Orphan X series.

I have read them all. The whole Orphan X series thus far. This book was disappointingly predictive. in the beginning I would not put them down, this one was easily put down. Will I read the next one, it would be a crime to waste all the time & money😉, so, most likely.........
