Par autoru

Professor Cryan is a professor at the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience and APC Microbiome Institute, University College Cork, Cork, Ireland

Prof. Gerard Clarke, Ph.D., is a Professor of Neurobehavioral Science inthe Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Science and a PrincipalInvestigator in APC Microbiome Ireland at University College Cork. Hisresearch program includes a focus on translational biomarkers of stress-relatedneuropsychiatric disorders, the impact of the gut microbiome onbrain and behavior across the life span, and microbial regulation of tryptophanmetabolism. Key achievements of his lab in the generation ofknowledge around the microbiota - gut - brain axis include the demonstrationthat the gut microbiome regulates the hippocampal serotonergicsystem in a sex-dependent manner, findings that paved the way fornumerous lines of inquiry on the effects of the gut microbiome on neurodevelopment, brain function, and behavior. He is regularly included inClarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researchers list, placing him among theworld’s top one percent of researchers by citation. His current approach isbased on advancing frontier knowledge in microbiome research to yieldpotential new therapeutic targets for the effective treatment of the centralnervous system and gastrointestinal disorders.
