Human nature is strange indeed. One never likes what one has got. The mind lusts for the unattainable.  मनुष्यस्वभाव हा वैचित्र्यपूर्ण असतो. जे मिळालंय त्यात समाधान न मानता जे जवळ नाही ते मिळवण्यासाठीच मनुष्य धडपडत राहतो. या धडपडीत तो जवळची नाती, प्रेमाची माणसं यांना दुरावतो. भौतिक इच्छांमध्ये गुंतत जातो आणि शेवटी उरतो तो एकटेपणा. जे आपल्याला कधीच मिळणार नाही अशा गोष्टीमागे आपण धावत आहोत हे ध्यानात येईपर्यंत उशीर झालेला असतो. परतण्याचे मार्ग बंद झालेले असतात. समतोल वृत्तीने आपली वाटचाल करणार्या माणसांना मात्र जीवनाचा अर्थ स्पष्ट समजलेला असतो. ’हरवलेल्या वाटा’ ही अशाच माणसांचं चित्रण करणारी कादंबरी आहे.
