When leaving the hospital after being accused of drinking while on duty and then overdosing one of her patients who dies, the nurse, Ebony, hears that one of her patients who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, is on the hospital roof threatening to jump. Rushing to the roof, and persuading the police to let her talk to Lauren, she enters into a dangerous pact with her. Lauren tells of her separation from her son .. all the terrible things that have gone wrong in her life, and knowing she's soon to die without mending some fences. Ebony promises to help Lauren and her son if Lauren will just not commit the act she started. But Ebony didn't know the entire story .... and now both women are being targeted by an unknown assailant who is causing them near fatal accidents. There have also been several threatening letters sent to them. Who is doing this ... and why? Is the intention to scare them both .. or do they want them dead? Who do they trust when they aren't even sure about each other? The mystery and suspense soar as twists and turns keep the reader engaged to each and every page. Ebony is a strong character, even though some of her choices are made in the heat of the moment amid self-doubt. Other characters are finely drawn .. likeable or not.
