I've got to say, this entry was one of the finest. The introduction of the new new was done so well. The expansion of what the fore runners had worked to create, the IIIs, the chief, ahhh fine work! Get ready to not wanna put this down!

Beautiful depiction of cost. tickles the reader with ideas of the value of human life, what it means to be a Spartan, and embodies the virtue... and the iniquity of humanity and highlights how both are necessary to survive. Nylund shows why he is the alpha when it comes to Halo books. Action is depicted vividly. Character motivations made plain. Ambiguity is informed and everything can be inferred by critical, analytical readers. Attention to detail is rewarded. Old wounds are reopened, closed with the ineptitude of a medic in training, and scar tissue torn away yet again. The pain is visceral, and Nylund does not shy away from the realities. Spartans never die. And the reality is everyone has a Spartan inside of them. Humanity is one amorphous blob with indiscernible appendages all working to their own end which prove undeniably their own worth and how each one is necessary to survive. Above all... Spartans never die, and Humanity will win. No matter the cost.

I'm very late for this well needed review. If I'm not mistaken, this was his final book for the series. I've LOVED his style of writing. I managed to read the books close to "in order" which, if I remember correctly, means I had to read one other book from a different author. I wasn't excited but I also wasn't completely let down. This book was amazing. I'm a hard core Halo fan but not to the point of showing up at E3 or any type of event. That said, man I can admit I actually shed a tear reading this. That's crazy! I'm not a big book reader, but I never expected I'd be so immersed in a book that I'd fall victim to emotion from the author. Impressed doesn't even say the half of it. Very well done. Easily the best of all the books I've read so far, out of the seven I have read. I'm not happy that this was his last book, to be frank but I get it. A big thanks to the author for making it interesting.
