Pragmatik – ein zentrales Gebiet der Sprachwissenschaft – hat alle Arten des sprachlichen Handelns zum Gegenstand. Ausgehend von den grundlegenden Paradigmen (Sprechakttheorie, Gesprächsforschung, Relevanztheorie etc.) informiert das Handbuch über aktuelle Forschungsbereiche (z.B. Interkulturelle Pragmatik, Experimentelle Pragmatik/Neuropragmatik, Kritische Diskursanalyse) sowie über Forschungsthemen (z.B. Gesten, Lügen, Ellipsen). Schließlich werden unterschiedliche Analysefelder der Pragmatik vorgestellt (z.B. Sprache und Recht, Sprache und Kunst, Wissenschaftskommunikation). Der Band repräsentiert den aktuellen Forschungsstand der Pragmatik in der gesamten Breite der Disziplin.
