About this eBook

The first five Harley Firebird urban fantasy novelettes.

Harley von Canmore is a firebird–a rare breed, even among the Old Races. She is also the Chief of Police of Falconer, a tiny town in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Falconer is different, just as Harley is. Everyone in the town is either one of the Old Races—orcs, fae, salamanders, and more—or they are human and waiting for their time to transform.

Follow Harley’s progress from reluctant Old One and newcomer to Falconer, who is stuck in the old way of keeping the peace, through to her emergence as a unique law-keeper, with a very human side to her firebird personality.

Harley Firebird Files is the first collection in the Harley Firebird urban fantasy series, and includes the first five novelettes. The Harley Firebird series is set in the same world as Taylen Carver’s Magorian & Jones series.

Urban Fantasy Collection

___

Praise for Taylen Carver’s urban fantasy:

Plenty of exciting twists and turns.

Feel the tingling of danger, the aha's of escaping death, and the excitement of magic

I loved this and will continue on with the series.

A very satisfying first book for a new series

blends the paranormal and the thriller/suspense you expect in a who done it crime story

Love the heroine

The story is filled with many interesting characters, and I'm sure throughout the series we will learn more about them and their new Sheriff and I can't wait to read all about them.

The author packs this short story with plenty of action and suspense.

Do yourself a big favor and be sure to read the entire series.

The only drawback - I want to read more of this fantastical world-building, and I want to read it now.

___

Canadian author Taylen Carver writes edgy urban fantasy, doesn’t pull punches, and would rather be writing unless otherwise notified. When not writing, Taylen can usually be found inside speculative fiction of other authors.  Favourites include Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris, Kevin Hearne, Laurell K. Hamilton, and Emma Bull.

Book 1 - The Dragon of Falconer A very satisfying first book for a new series that blends fantasy and the thriller/suspense you expect in a who done it crime story. The town of Falconer, is most unusual, and why is what makes this story unique. I love the heroine, the new town sheriff, and how we're discovering her capabilities as she herself is learning. I can't wait to learn more about the no-nonsense Mayor, the one who hired her, and others who live in this town. The story is filled with many interesting characters, and I'm sure throughout the series we will learn more about them and the Sheriff. The author has given us an awesome world-building adventure and I can't wait to see what she's giving us in the next book. Book 2 - The Orc Who Cried The new sheriff of Falconer has a new mystery but was it mother nature or murder. This short story is packed with big book mystery and suspense. The sheriff needs to not only learn to control her powers but to conquer her fears so she's able to use all of them. The twist at the end surprised me. It may be a small town, but a town filled with "old ones" has plenty left to write about. Book 3 - The Shepherd of Fire In this great world-building series we find the Sheriff of Falconer working on yet another murder and during the investigation discovers she has a very unique power. Unfortunately, she also learns that the man she tried to believe might have some good in him, is worse than she thought. Seems this small town of mainly "old ones" has enough action in it to keep the Sheriff quite busy. The author packs this short story with plenty of action Book 4 - The Mad Folk of Falconer The Sheriff of Falconer is working on yet another murder and during the investigation discovers she has a very unique power. Unfortunately, she also learns that the man she tried to believe might have some good in him, is worse than she thought. Seems this small town of mainly "old ones" has enough action in it to keep the Sheriff quite busy. Once agsin the author packs this short story with plenty of action and suspense. Book 5 - The Badge of Our Tribe Okay, the author really got me on this one. I can usually see a little ahead and figure out where they're are going, but this one surprised the heck out of me. The Falconer stories may be short, but there are rare enough pages to get in a surprise or two, an unexpected turn of events, etc. This one had some current real-life problems in it; racism, hate, intimidation, rape, family issues, teen issues. The bad guy could be taken straight from our current "MeToo" movement. But I have the same issue with this one as I did with the previous stories, it is too short, this world and the characters in it are fascinating and I want more, more, more. I'm back in the '50s, going to the movies with my dad and seeing the next serial chapter of Buck Rogers. But I'm not complaining, just wishing
