About this ebook

From 3x USA Today bestselling author Harper Lin

Maggie’s estranged half-sister suddenly arrives in town. Angel has lived in a hippie commune for years. Now she’s escaped for mysterious reasons. Echo, Angel’s boyfriend, comes to Fair Haven looking for her. But shortly after, his dead body is found at the base of a bridge.

The last time Echo was seen was with Angel. Maggie knows Angel came home that night full of scuffs and scratches. Could she have killed Echo? In the meantime, the rest of the commune, The Great Society of Atonement, descends into town during the hundredth anniversary of the establishment of Fair Haven. These criminals in hippie clothing steal from small businesses, clash with the locals, and cause chaos wherever they go. The cult leader wants Angel back and will do whatever it takes to get her.

Trouble seems to follow Angel wherever she goes, but she is still Maggie’s little sister. Maggie must save Angel from being thrown in jail, getting kidnapped by a dangerous cult, or becoming another murder victim...

This latest Bookstore Mystery is actually set outside of the bookstore more than at the shop. It makes the reader feel like we get to know a lot more about Maggie as a person instead of as a shop clerk. Of course the bookshop still is important, and the vivid descriptions of her displays for the town's anniversary celebration made me want to linger and check out the shelves! But the arrival of Maggie's sister Angel and other less savory characters drew the action to several other locations, making the reader feel like a part of the town and it's celebration. It was interesting to watch Maggie deal with emotions and circumstances due to Angel's unexpected visit. I admired the way the sister's relationship went back and forth from rocky to loyal, and no matter what, Maggie's steadfast loyalty. Lots of characters with interacting emotions added tension to the story as well as making it very realistic. I felt we are finally seeing the "real" Maggie as she was less inhibited than in the earlier two books. The mystery component was a complete surprise to this reader, and very well handled. I sure didn't see the conclusions ahead of time, making it extra intense and interesting. A terrific story that will keep you reading as quickly as possible to see how things resolve.
