Vor vielen Jahren ist Fritz von Lossow nach Amerika ausgewandert. Dort hat er eine Wäscherin geheiratet und ist mit ihr glücklich und reich geworden. Eines Tages macht er unerwartet eine Erbschaft. Sein Onkel in Deutschland hat ihm das große Gut Lemkow vermacht. Da Fritz jedoch selbst zurzeit nicht reisen kann, schickt er seine Tochter Ellinor nach Deutschland, um den Besitz zu übernehmen.
