Roman um eine stolze junge Frau und ihren schweren Weg ins Glück. Käthe Suntheim leidet sehr unter ihrem Vater. Er ist selbstsüchtig und gönnt weder seiner Frau noch seinen Kindern die geringste Freude. Für ihn hingegen darf an keiner Stelle gespart werden, ihm darf es an nichts fehlen.
