About this ebook

Jack Erikson doesn’t have great expectations when his mother moves them to an old decrepit inn in a town just as musty, but he’s unprepared for the oddities that start springing out of the rotten woodwork. New friends introduce him to legends and rumors that have swirled around the inn since time-immemorial, and he finds plenty of proof to believe them as strange noises and twisted shadows stalk the halls.

Worst of all, his estranged grandfather has invited himself to join them at the inn. Creepy doesn’t begin to describe that black-cloaked gentleman with the pale skin and weird, ever-constant glasses. Old secrets, mysterious sealed-up rooms and creeping shadows abound as Jack tries to manage his new life at Hawthorn Inn.

Hawthorn Inn is the first in a five novel horror/supernatural thriller series featuring Jack Erikson, a normal teenager with not-so-normal secrets.

The book seemed to have a lot of editorial issues of words placed in the incorrect spots and grammatical errors abounded. As a reader I felt that the author could use an expansion in their vocabulary as many of the sentences were ended in exactly the same wording as a previous one. It also felt like the book kept building towards something big, but that something big was exceedingly short lived and not much of a reward for all the slow parts before. Many hints with little actually given for sticking with it.

Most people would stop reading this entirely when they're over half way and nothing has really happened. While one of a series, this is definitely lacking in the pull required to lure me in to finish whatever else there is. There are around two or three vaguely interesting parts right at the end, but even for someone as hopelessly curious as me, I have no urge to buy the next book.

Good read but I would say it's really aimed at the Youth market as opposed to adults. In DIRE need of heavy editing - spelling, punctuation & grammatical errors abound. The author also needs to expand their vocabulary as repetitive words grated. I felt like I needed to be a teacher with a heavy handed use of the old red pen!
