About this eBook

USA Today Bestseller

In this stunning series debut from
New York Times bestselling author Madeline Hunter, a duke’s mysterious bequest brings fortune—and passion—to three young women . . .

Minerva Hepplewhite has learned the hard way how to take care of herself. When an intruder breaks into her home, she doesn’t swoon or simper. Instead she wallops the rogue over the head and ties him up—only to realize he is Chase Radnor, a gentleman and grandson of a lord, and a man who makes it his business to investigate suspicious matters. Now he’s insisting that Minerva has inherited a fortune from his uncle, a wealthy duke. Only one thing could surprise her more: her sudden attraction to this exasperating man . . .

Chase can’t decide whether Minerva is a wronged woman or a femme fatale. Either way, he’s intrigued. Maddeningly, with her unexpected inheritance, she has set up a discreet detective business to rival Chase’s own. She may be the perfect person to help him uncover the truth about his uncle’s demise. But as proximity gives way to mutual seduction, Chase realizes he craves a much deeper alliance . . .

Heiress for Hire is the first book in A Duke’s Heiress Romance series by Madeline Hunter. A Duke dies and unexpectedly leaves most of his fortune to three unknown women. Was his death an accident or murder? Minerva Hepplewhite is to be the first recipient of the dead Duke’s estate, but no one knows who she is or why she’s left this fortune. Chase Radnor, grandson of the late Duke is investigating the untimely death. The hero and the heroine are thrown together in the investigation. So what happens when sparks ignite between them? I tried to like this book. I think I felt lost in the myriad of characters. Hunter is an excellent writer, but I think there were too many people to try to keep up with for me to be able to relax and enjoy the book. “He touched his lips to hers, ignoring the inner voice warning of impossible complications. She did not veer back, but allowed it. It entered his mind that she was too stunned to resist, but the softness of her lips and the warmth of their closeness diverted his attention for that idea. He lingered in the kiss, and when she still did not object, he gathered her toward him and into an embrace.” I obtained a copy of this book from NetGalley.

Heiress For Hire is the first book I read by author Madeline Hunter. I must say that I loved the style of writing. This is a great story that combines mistery, love and fun. The couple of Minerva and Chase are great characters. Their romance are sweet and realistic. Minerva is an independent woman different from others at that time. Chase is interested in solving the mystery surrounding the death of his uncle the Duke. Both Minerva and Chase believe that the Duke may have been murdered. There may be suspects from the same Chase family. I would like to read the next book from this serie, the Kevin story. This is a fantastic book well-written. I really enjoyed reading. I give this book five stars.

WOW! Heiress For Hire is a spectacular historical romance by Madeline Hunter. Ms. Hunter has provided readers with a book that is not only well-written, it's furnished with a cast of characters that is second to none. I totally love the characters in this story. Minerva changed her name and moved from the area after her husband was killed and she was suspected. She now does investigations. When an intruder enters her home she doesn't hesitate to bash him in the head. Chase is doing an investigation of his own into his uncle's death. Minerva is due to inherit a goodly sum and is now one of his suspects. Chase and Minerva's story is packed with drama, humor, smokin' hot sexy bits, action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Madeline Hunter soon. Heiress For Hire is book 1 of the A Duke's Heiress Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
