Four and a half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒ When Sparks Fly by Helena Hunting is a delightful, entertaining, and a bit steamy, friends-to-lovers romance. Avery Spark and her two sisters run an event planning business at the Spark House event space that has been in their family for years. They work hard to keep the business running and are always on the lookout for more events to plan. Avery and Declan are best friends and roommates. Avery and Declan both enjoy soccer and spending Monday nights with their friends watching football and have a special friendship that neither of them wants to mess with. Back in college, Avery was dating, Declan’s best friend Sam, but when Sam was unfaithful, they broke up their relationship and Declan sided with Avery and they both pushed Sam out of their lives. When Avery gets in a car wreck while driving to an important Spark House meeting, Decan is sick with guilt because he was supposed to drive her, but was too late getting up after spending the night with his latest one-night stand. So, when Avery is unable to care for herself due to her injuries, Declan takes time off work, to care for her and help Avery recover and gain back her mobility. The time Avery and Declan spend together during her recovery unearths their deeper feelings for each other, but they have to learn to be together again as Avery gets back to normal. This was a fun, but also deeply emotional book with a perfect friends-to-lovers trope. Both characters have some emotional baggage that keeps them from fully finding love. I like that the main characters are really good friends to start with, and they both understand each other so well, that when they both realize they have stronger feelings for each other, their transition to lovers is easy until they have to face reality again. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a fun romantic book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Avery Spark and her family run Spark House, a hotel that specializes in setting up various events. Avery handles all of the activities since she is the really sporty one. She has also been living with her best friend, Declan McCormick for the last two years. Never once have these two thought of taking their relationship to the next level. That is until Avery gets in a car accident and Declan feels guilty because he was suppose to be with her. Now Avery needs someone to take care of her and Declan feels he needs to be the one to help ease his guilt. Of course the more these two really spend together, the more they both are seeing the other in a different light until they finally give in to their chemistry. Everything is going along wonderfully until a blast from both of their pasts comes back and manages to throw a wrench into the relationship. It will take a lot of looking inside for Avery and Declan to be able to find their way back to each other but they do so in a fun, entertaining way. I just adored this sexy friends to lovers story. Avery and Declan have both wanted the other but never wanted to risk their friendship. I just loved Declan. He may have some commitment issues because of things in his past, but it just seemed that with Avery he became grounded. I really enjoyed Avery too. She was a fun, active woman who tended to hang out more with the guys. It was so entertaining what these two went through when Declan started having to take care of her. I just loved all the situations they went through....it kept me laughing out loud. Another great book by Helena Hunting.

Avery and Declan's best friends-to-lovers story in When Sparks Fly by Helen Hunting is an enjoyable and emotional story that brings out all the feels. Avery and Declan have been best friends since college and are currently roommates, never having crossed the friend line to feeling more; romantically speaking. When Avery is in a terrible car accident that leaves her injured both physically and mentally it brings up intense past emotions for both her and her sisters; reminders of their parents’ own fatal accident. Declan was supposed to be driving with Avery that day but after messing up, he is torn up with guilt over what happened, and the realities of why he wasn’t there. Being best friends and roommates, he works for forgiveness by taking care of Avery while she’s on the mend. Spending time together has these two starting to have romantic feelings for each other and while neither of them are relationship experts, they recognize that they already have an established friendship and dedication to each other. Declan, however, has only seen a very toxic relationship between his parents, and he’s always cut any of his relationships off before they became serious. Their journey to a relationship and love is a bumpy ride and at times, Declan was a real jerk. When he jumps to conclusions causing their fragile relationship to implode, I wanted to slap Declan upside his head. Despite the sizzling chemistry they shared, it is going to take a lot of groveling by Declan before Avery will be able to trust him again. Ms. Hunting wrote an emotional, wonderful, heartwarming romance that kept me turning the pages as I followed the twist and turns of Avery and Declan’s relationship. She provided a tale rich with magnetic attraction, sizzling chemistry, clever banter, the magic of friends, and charming characters giving Avery and Declan a chance at love, happiness, and a future neither expected. I highly recommend When Sparks Fly to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
